Trope and Trope was established in 1949.
Initially the firm engaged in various areas of the law, with about a third of its activity in family law (then called "divorce law"), but Sorrell Trope very quickly developed a special expertise in the area of family law. Within a short period of time the percentage of the firm's practice devoted to family law significantly increased, to about half of the firm's overall practice. Under Sorrell Trope's leadership and foresight, the firm grew, and as the firm grew in size, more and more of its practice was devoted to family law. By the mid-1970's, Trope and Trope had eight attorneys and more than a vast majority of its practice was devoted to family law. This was an unheard of phenomenon at that time as generally family law practitioners in California practiced alone, or perhaps with one or two others. Despite the recession in the 1980's, Trope and Trope continued to prosper and grow, and by 1990, the firm had reached its present size of approximately 25-30 attorneys. At the same time, the firm's concentration in the area of family law continued to increase, and today virtually all of the firm's practice is in the area of family law. Trope and Trope has demonstrated to the legal community that family law can be practiced in a successful and efficient way in a firm setting, as opposed to the traditional sole practice or two-person firm, and in recent years several other family law firms in Southern California have followed suit. Nevertheless, Trope and Trope remains the largest, most successful, and most prestigious family law firm in California, setting a standard for quality family law practice in Southern California. The present attorney staff has a combined experience of more than 400 years, most of which are in the area of family law, and the firm today can offer its clients a wide variety of efficient family law legal services. Today Not only has Trope and Trope provided excellent representation for its clientele over the years, the firm and its partners and associate attorneys have been very active in supporting such organizations as the Harriet Buhai Center and Levitt & Quinn, organizations in Los Angeles which provide family law legal services to the needy and less fortunate. Both monetarily and by volunteer work, Trope and Trope has been at the forefront of making significant contributions to our community. |
